Most corporate brand guides are built around color. The logo has a specific blue, the secondary mark uses a gradient, and the marketing team has opinions about both. When that logo goes onto a gift, the expectation is that it looks the way it does on the website.
Full-color UV printing is how etchXpress meets that expectation on hard goods. This guide covers how the process works, which products it suits, and how to plan a corporate program around it.
How UV printing works
A UV printer deposits ink directly onto the surface of the product in fine, controlled layers. As the ink lands, ultraviolet light cures it in place. The result is a full-color image bonded to the surface of the item.
Because the ink is cured on contact, the printed piece is finished as soon as it comes off the printer. It moves straight to inspection and packing. There is no drying time, no transfer film, and no secondary step.
The process handles the details that brand teams care about:
- Specific brand colors, including multi-color logos
- Gradients and photographic artwork
- Fine lines and small text
- White ink underlays, so colors stay bright on dark or clear surfaces
What UV printing works on
UV printing is for hard goods and rigid surfaces. The most common products in our corporate programs include:
- Drinkware: tumblers, water bottles, wine and spirits bottles, and glassware
- Bottles and packaging: custom labels printed directly on bottles, boxes, and tins
- Acrylic: awards, desk signs, display pieces, and recognition blocks
- Leather goods: portfolios, notebooks, and accessories
- Tech accessories: power banks, chargers, and phone accessories
- Wood and metal: coasters, plaques, cutting boards, and signage
- Bogg bags
UV printing does not go on apparel or fabric. Shirts, jackets, hats, and soft bags need a different decoration method.
UV printing and laser engraving work together
Laser engraving and UV printing are both core services at etchXpress, and most programs use one or both depending on the product and the look you want.
Laser engraving produces a clean, permanent mark that is part of the material itself. It is a natural fit for stainless drinkware, leather, wood, and award pieces where a tonal, premium finish is the goal. Many of our most popular gifts are engraved.
UV printing is the choice when the design calls for color. A full-color logo on a white tumbler, a custom label on a bottle of bourbon, or an acrylic award that matches the company’s brand standards all fall into that category.
It is common for a single gift program to use both. An engraved leather portfolio can sit in the same box as a UV printed tumbler, and both pieces come off the same production floor.
Where UV printing fits in a corporate program
UV printing tends to show up in a few types of programs:
Client gifts with custom labels. A spirits bottle with a full-color label designed for the recipient or the occasion makes a strong impression. It also gives the marketing team room to design something specific to the relationship.
Recognition awards that match brand standards. Acrylic awards with full-color logos, certification marks, or program artwork look consistent with the rest of the company’s materials.
Event and conference gifts. Full-color drinkware or tech accessories carry event branding that matches the signage, badges, and printed materials.
Employee gifts and company stores. When employees choose from a set of branded items, full-color printing keeps the brand consistent across products made from different materials.
How to plan a UV printed program
A few details make the process faster and help the finished product match what you expect.
Send vector artwork. A vector file (AI, EPS, SVG, or a vector PDF) gives the cleanest result. If you only have a high-resolution PNG, send that and we will tell you whether it will print well.
Share your brand colors. If the logo uses specific Pantone or hex values, include them. We match to the brand standard and review a proof with you before production.
Pick the product early. The product determines the print area, the placement, and whether a white underlay is needed. Choosing the item first keeps the artwork and the proof on track.
Plan quantity and personalization together. UV printing can handle individual names or details on each item. If the program includes personalization, send the recipient list with the order so it is built into the production run.
Build in fulfillment. If the gifts are shipping to individual recipients, include the delivery list and the in-hands date when you request a quote. Production and fulfillment happen in the same building, so the shipping plan is built alongside the print schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions
What products can be UV printed?
UV printing works on hard goods and rigid surfaces. That includes drinkware, glass and spirits bottles, acrylic awards, leather goods, tech accessories, wood, metal, coated surfaces, packaging, and Bogg bags.
Can UV printing go on shirts or hats?
No. UV printing is for hard goods and rigid surfaces only. Apparel, hats, and soft fabric bags need a different decoration method.
Does UV printing match brand colors?
Yes. UV printing reproduces full-color logos, gradients, and fine detail. Send your Pantone or hex values with the artwork and we will review a proof with you before production starts.
Should I choose UV printing or laser engraving?
It depends on the product and the look you want. Laser engraving gives a clean, permanent, tonal mark that works well on stainless drinkware, leather, wood, and awards. UV printing is the choice when the design needs full color. Many programs use both.
What file format works best for UV printing?
Vector artwork such as AI, EPS, SVG, or a vector PDF gives the cleanest result. A high-resolution PNG can also work, and we will let you know if the file needs adjustment.
